If you are a 6th, 7th or 8th grader EDGE is the place for you! EDGE is the Faith Formation Program for 6-8th grade and is all about learning how to know and love Christ and His Church. We meet regularly on Wednesdays 6:00- 7:30pm in Annunciation Hall during the academic year.
Each Semester will focus on a different Catechetical theme, during the EDGE nights we will learn about this theme in unique ways as well as have nights dedicated to growing in community and covering relevant issues our youth face every day.
Learning about God is not supposed to be something that is uninteresting or boring.
Catechesis should be an encounter with Jesus himself. Blessed John Paul II said “at the heart of catechesis we find, in essence, a Person, the Person of Jesus of Nazareth.” Everything we do, from watching silly videos to playing games or praying together should all lead to a deeper relationship with Christ through his Church.
A beautiful thing about being Catholic is that we are ONE Church, we are ONE family.
In EDGE we hope to make it possible for teens to grow in community with each other, with the whole parish, and ultimately our universal Church. Each teen is part of a small group with the same CORE members and other junior high schoolers for the entire year to foster this community, and to make every teen feel like they have a place to belong in EDGE.
The EDGE format is designed to resemble the Mass.
First, we begin with the 'Gather' where we all come together, pray, share how we have been since we last met, and play a game to introduce the theme of the week.
After the 'Gather' we have the 'Proclaim' which resembles the Liturgy of the Word from mass. We are blessed to have not only our youth ministry team but also vibrant and powerful speakers come to help us break open the word of God and proclaim the good news.
In the mass the next thing is to break and eat the body of Christ in the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The next part of EDGE is called the 'Break.' As members of the body of Christ we break out into small groups separated by grade to discuss and better understand the message and lesson for the week.
The final part of EDGE is the 'Send.' The word mass literally means 'to be sent' because in the final words before mass ends we are sent out as a Church to serve others and to preach the Gospel. In this final portion of EDGE we have a specific prayerful activity or reflection where we learn how to take the lesson of the week and bring it with us in our daily lives. Before closing the night in prayer, one of the kid's favorite activities is our Saint of the Week where we learn the story of one of the many Saints and allow the lives of these holy men and women to inspire us.
As parents, you have an amazing gift and responsibility to be the most important teacher in your child's life. That's a big responsibility so we are here to help! Passing on the faith to our children can sometimes seem overwhelming and we don't know where to begin.
Every week, we send an update for that week's upcoming lesson. These updates include information and resources on the topic so that you can learn about it yourself, a summary of the life of the Saint of the Week we will talk about, questions specifically catered to our topic that week so that you can easily continue the conversation with your children in the car on your way home, and more!
If there are any additional resources that we can provide you, ways that we can pray for you, or even if you would just like to meet up and chat please let us know!
We typcially have EDGE Lock-Ins, day retreats and a multiday summer event. Our youth ministry team will keep you informed of the dates and when registration is available.
EDGE Kids are also invited to open drop-ins at the ministry building where we will have games and opportunities for them to meet and hangout with other youth from church.
