What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual Direction is sacred listening as illustrated in the story of Jesus on the road to Emmaus. It is a process of walking alongside someone (spiritual seekers) in their spiritual journey, offering guidance, understanding, and insight to help them recognize and respond to the presence of the divine in their lives.
In the story, two disciples were walking to the village of Emmaus, saddened, and confused by the recent crucifixion of Jesus. They were engrossed in their sorrow and questions. Jesus, although unrecognized by them at first, joined them on their journey. He listened attentively as they poured out their hearts, sharing their doubts and disappointments.
